Flowers

Flowers are the bees’ main food source, due to the large supply of nectar and pollen they can provide. The variety of flowers from which the bees collect the nectar has a direct influence on the type of honey they will produce from it. Based on the geographic region and the flower properties, honey can come out in different nuances and shades related to flavors, colors, taste and composition. Based on the flower types there are assortments of honey have have a familiar perhaps even common taste and there those with a rare taste perhaps one that even require an acquired taste. Some of the plants that have blossoms which produce that familiar type of honey: are the acacia, the linden tree, the sunflower or the rapeseed. They produce the most common types of honey such as linden honey, acacia honey and polyfloral honey. At the other end of this spectrum we have plants whose blossoms produce rare types of honey. These would be: lavender, mint, coriander. Coriander honey is one of the most favored types of honey in treating ailments of the digestive tract. There is also a special category of trees and bushes, coniferous trees (pine, spruce, fir) and deciduous trees (maple, oak), that do not blossom, but can produce honeydew honey, one of the most valued types of honey in the world. The world holds many more types of flowers that bees take interest in, these being just some worthy mentions out of nature’s large pallet.

Florile
